We did it!! We made it 2022! 2021 was as much of a blur as 2020, if I’m being honest. If not for the random pictures on my phone and the occasional scrapbook page in my planner, I’d struggle to come up what occurred last year, much less off the top of my head. But that’s okay. I took what experiences I could from 2021.
Unexpectedly, my rest period extended to the end of January. Now, with us well into February, I can comfortably say that I have no resolutions this year.
None.
Zero.
Nada.
Not to say I don’t have any plans and whatnot, I just want to take the year as it goes. I want to play fun games, buy cute clothes I’ll actually love and write weird, self-indulgent stories. Maybe get another tattoo. But the main focus is writing, with the intention to sell standalone works and post ongoing serials online.
It’s all “technically” self indulgence writing but some projects have a higher priority than others.
Also, yes this is a writing post. So–
Mermay:
I attempt to write at least a snippet for Mermay every year with varying results. The one I have planned this year doesn’t exactly scream mermaids but I hope it’s enjoyable, regardless of who decides to read it. And if I somehow manage to finish this well before May, I have a second potential story lined up. Though, that second story is part of a larger series I have planned.
Rooks n’ Guns:
I finished outlining the first book early last year so I’ll begin the draft around May. Shelving the outline has done me a great deal of good. I’m still excited about the story months later and can’t wait to dive back in with a fresh perspective.
Others That Mother:
Ideally, I’d like for “Others That Mother” to be ready and out in the world before autumn. Eight months to draft, revise and polish this strange little story before moving on to its companion, “Others That Hunger.” As you know from some of the previous posts, “Mothers” has been my main focus for months now. I’m starting to fill in awkward plot holes and transitions as well as figuring out what absolutely needs to be included as opposed to what I think is neat lore I want readers to know about.
Of course, there’s also several short story ideas but I’ll get to those whenever the mood strikes. Who knows, maybe some of those nameless stories will be done before the year is over. But for now, it’s time to hunker down and get to work.
