Something that makes me happy when reading Chihiro Ishizuka’s Flying Witch, besides all of it, is how the familiars have hobbies and interests outside of their work serving as witches’ familiars. Ororu working in real estate and showing animals uninhabited territory for them to claim. Kenny being an anthropology buff and traveling to do research in addition to the traveling he does with Akane. It’s a touch that ties more magic in the mundane world without it being overly exaggerated. That’s just the way things are. I love the little ways it exists within the ordinary.

And who doesn’t love the idea of a owl or cat off in search of more knowledge. I wonder if Ishizuka was inspired by another scholarly feline when they were thinking up characters.
